Parents arrived in Placerville in 1901. Father owned blacksmith shop until they moved to Sawpit where he began building wagons. His father also owned blacksmith shop at New Mire located near Vanaduim Mill. Later his family bought a store and boarding house in Sawpit. Talks about life at New Mire and mining vanadium. Mentions placer mining in Sawpit. Elbert attended school in Sawpit until his family sold the store, boardinghouse and blacksmith shop and moved to Redvale. Returned to Vanaduim in 1940's and worked maintaining equipment at Fall Creek Mine.
