The 1964 Mountaineer football team beat the Ft. Lewis Raiders 77-13 on their way to the RMAC championship and post-season action against the North Dakota State University in the Mineral Water Bowl. WSC lost to the favored Buffaloes 14-13. At least five different marching bands, including Western State, are in the stands; this could be one of the annual "Band Day" events.

Mountaineer Bowl was begun in 1948 and completed in 1959 with the construction of the gate house at the south end of the stadium. This photograph captures W Mountain and Escalante Heights as well as the the football game in full action on the field.
