Robert James "Bob' Gilbert describes his upbringing in Routt County and Denver. After serving time in World War II, Bob retured to Oak Creek where he worked on automobile bodies and repairs.
Pioneer Frances (May) Dorr Wheeler describes growing up and raising a family in rural Routt County. She also explains her philosophy of life. Included are three of her original poems.
John Fetcher describes his early life and education and his involvement in munitions manufacturing during World War II. After the war John and his family purchased a ranch in Routt County, and John went on to make numerous contributions to the Yampa Valley including establishing the Steamboat Springs ski resort.
Samuel Joseph "Sam" McBride describes his early years and his 38 year mining career in Routt County. He provides a comprehensive picture of the changes in coal mining and the need for and formation of mining labor unions.
Wayne Whitecotton describes growing up on a Routt County ranch in the early 20th century. After leaving school at age 13, Wayne made a living as a rancher and coal miner supplementing his food supply by hunting and trapping. He served with General Patton in World War II.
