Five children lined up by the fence in front of the Avon School. Snow is on the ground. One boy holds a sled, another a pair of skis. Addition to the school is visible. Used on p. 54 of Beaver Creek: the first one hundred years, by June Simonton.

Original Avon School before addition, taken prior to 1915. The horse barn has not been built. Fence surrounding school yard visible. Shows the Eagle River on right with "water spruce" hanging over the river and Johnson Lane (named for homesteader Joe Johnson) that was the road into Bachelor Gulch. The house was built in 1880-90's. It was moved from Keystone mines near Oak Creek in 1944 to the Leonard Horn Ranch. The house was sawed in half to get accross the frozen Colorado River at State Bridge in order to make the move. There is a barbed wire fence in the foreground and a rug airing on the porch rail.
