Andrew Oleson, Gypsum, Colorado. Mr. Oleson is seated for a formal photograph, in suit with bowtie.
Born in Tornum, Nord-Schleswig, Denmark, October 22, 1864, Andrew attened German Trades schools, learning shoemaking. He joined his father in Colorado in 1883. Andrew worked in Red Cliff at first and then joined his family on the homestead in Gypsum Valley, the Sam Oleson Place. In 1902, he purchased the Shippey Place in Gypsum Valley which he owned...

George Washington Messersmith sits on a small porch with his granddaughters, Mary Ellen (left) and Evelyn Urdine Douthit (right). The photo was taken around 1930 in front of Urdine Bell & William Henry Lea's home in Gypsum, Colorado (George Washington's daughter and son-in-law). The log cabin in the picture was also on the property and once was home to William Lea's mother, Johanna Harrison Lea, and his sister, Ada Lea (Sprague).
