Due to the large amount of time coaches spend with their athletes it is surprising, emotions such as shame, humiliation, and embarrassment, can be felt by an athlete without a coach even realizing the impact that their behavior has on the athlete. For this reason, understanding the mechanism or causes for athletes' feelings of shame may help coaches become more aware of their behaviors.
