He was born in Stratton, Nebraska to Freidrich Wilhelm “William” Flasche and Marie Katherine “Mary” (Vatz) Flasche. Census records indicate that his father was an immigrant from Germany, and that his mother immigrated from a German settlement in Russia. They were farmers.
